I had the privilege of collaborating with Larry Crawford for a decade at International Paper Company Pensacola Mill. Larry played a pivotal role in overseeing PV&T and Mechanical Integrity for the Pensacola mill, spanning the Power Business Unit, Fibers Business Unit, and Finished Products. As the Reliability Engineer for the Power Business Unit, I consistently turned to Larry for guidance on tank and pressure vessel inspections, identifying areas needing capital repairs, and addressing issues discovered during routine tank inspections. Larry’s meticulous review of reports and proactive documentation of action items showcased his commitment to excellence. His expertise extended beyond the Power Business Unit, as he provided valuable insights to Reliability Engineers in Fibers and Finished Products. Larry offered guidance on relief valve rebuilds, inspection frequencies, and major equipment inspections, ensuring compliance with RBSA Policy inspection programs. His advice on welding procedures and NDE inspections for repairs involving tanks, pressure vessels, and process piping was instrumental. Larry’s organizational skills and wealth of experience were instrumental in maintaining up-to-date inspection files for both hard copy and electronic records. His dedication to excellence became evident during internal and external audits, where his contribution was invaluable. On a personal note, Larry Crawford is not just a colleague but a friend and mentor of high integrity. His presence would undoubtedly elevate any organization aiming to enhance its PV&T and Mechanical Integrity program.
It has been several years since Larry and I had the opportunity to work together, but I can say this, if we ever get the chance to again, I know we will pick up right where we left off. Larry was a big part of my mentoring program as a GREEN Authorized Inspector. I was new to the industry and had a lot of questions, especially in the field of Nondestructive Examinations. Let’s face it, NDE is not the easiest thing to learn. Larry is also very well versed in Quality Control programs, the performance of inspections and the documenting of the results. He is a true professional who loves to share his knowledge. If I were a company looking to hire a “Quality” professional, Larry Crawford would be my choice. I highly recommend Larry and he would be an asset to any company looking to improve on their Quality Programs. Thank you, Larry, for everything that you have done for me!
M&M Construction opened their doors in 2000 as a small general contractor providing all types of construction services to the Power Generation Sector, including welding. M&M, with the help of an Authorized Insurance Agency (AIA), acquired a Certificate of Authorization from the NBBI to use the National Board “R” stamp for code and boundary welding in 2006. The original plan was that I would serve as President and Quality Control Manager (QCM), but, after a short time it became obvious that this plan would not work out and I began my search for a QC Manager. A friend recommended CC&S Enterprises to me, and the rest is history.
M&M partnered with CC&S to provide Third-Party QC services in 2008 and I could not be any happier. Mr. Larry Crawford has served as the QC Manager through six Joint Reviews with the National Board (NB) and the AIA. M&M has maintained the continuous use of the NB “R” stamp and I feel very confident that the Certificate for Authorization will be renewed again when the next Joint Review occurs in March ’24.
Speaking for the entire staff of M&M Construction, we are 100% pleased with the effort, dedication and professional service that we always receive from CC&S.
Larry, I just wanted to give you and your company, CC&S, a heartfelt “Thank You!” for all the expertise that was provided to me and the staff when we opened Son Rise Mechanical (SRM) in 2020. Your expert help in preparing Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS’s), instructions on exactly how to prepare the weld coupons for the Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) and the extra effort you made by taking the coupons to a material testing laboratory in Birmingham for the required destructive testing was greatly appreciated. One day after the coupon’s passed the tension and bend tests, the completed PQR’s and Welder Performance Qualification Records were in my Inbox. Due to the great service, quick turnaround and caring attitude, CC&S Enterprises will always be the “go to” quality control service for Son Rise Mechanical. When SRM decides to pursue a Code Stamp from the National Board, we will turn to CC&S for assistance.
It has been a privilege to work side by side with Larry Crawford and CC&S for the past 23+ years. The implementation of the Mechanical Integrity Program, including the Pressure Vessel & Tank database, has shown tremendous improvement during this period and much of that can be attributed to the efforts of CC&S Enterprises. The proofreading and copyediting of all ATS inspection reports before they are submitted to the client has been a tremendous help to me and all other ATS technicians. Grammatical errors that were commonplace in the past have been eliminated and the formal inspection reports are now a part of the overall quality that my employer seeks to provide to our clients.
My hats off to CC&S and Mr. Crawford for setting a new standard for documentation quality.
